What is ELA?
A new, simplified European certification process for
- non-complex piston-engine aeroplanes of a maximum weight of less then 2000 kg, very light rotorcraft, motor gliders, sailplanes, airships, and balloons of limited gas or hot air capacity.
- Light Sport Aircraft (FAA, USA)
Why is it being introduced?
To reduce certification costs for the light aircraft listed above and to allow operation of EASA-certified Light Sport Aircraft in Europe.
